CGB-FFA. Deacon William Maltby, b. Mar. 19, 1825 (Henry 5, Jas.4, Sam.3, Sam.2, Wm.1). m. June 4, 1857, Esther Hall, b. Dec. 11, 1823, dau. of Dr. Rice and Esther (Hall) Hall, of Wallingford, Ct. He, as did his ancestors, resided at Northford, Ct. He d. May 31, 1908. Was a member of the Maltby Association.

In 1906 when I, with my mother and sister, were leaving for the West, we went up to Northford to see the old place and the Maltbys who were residing there.

We knew of descendants of Daniel (2), so called on them. As we were leaving they told us: "There is another Maltby living here but they are no relation."

This "no relation" was Deacon William and his family, who descended from Samuel (2) Maltbie. Deacon William Maltby's photograph and his obituary were published in the Maltby Association Booklet No. 2.

                          Obituary.

"In the death of Deacon William Maltby the town loses one of its oldest and best citizens. In his younger days he was a school teacher and taught school in Wallingford and other towns. Later he settled on the farm. He represented his town in the State Legislature in 1881. He was a member of the school board for thirty-five years; and for over forty years was a deacon in the Congregational Church." His widow and two daughters survived him. (Records by his daughters).

Eliakim was son of Josiah James Linsley, who also m. a Hall, Eunice Hall, dau. of Eliakim Hall of Wallingford, and Ruth Dukerman. Line of Josiah James (6) Linsley, (Josiah 5, Joseph 4, John 3, John 2, John 1).

CGB-GAA. William Maltby, b. July 24, 1814 (Jacob 5, Jonathan 4, Sam.3, Sam.2, Wm.1); d. Mar. 13, 1860. Born in the town of Camillus, now Van Buren. m. Mary Ann Vosburgh, dau. of James Vosburgh and wife Jane, b. 1815. He was a farmer and lived in the town Camillus. He married a sister of the wife of his brother Miner Maltby. His farm was on Nose hill, a road now abandoned. One March day during a severe blizzard he was returning home, when he was overcome by the cold and died in a snow drift at the foot of Nose hill where he had crawled on his hands and knees in a desperate effort to reach his home.

Tombstone inscriptions and Burial records). Harvey B. Walker, Route 31, Baldwinsville, N.Y., gave the account of William Maltby's death.

William Maltby was originally buried in the little farm cemetery on the Chester Molby-Harrison Rouse farm. Most of the bodies were later removed and the ground leveled. Some of the stones were buried below plow depth. The stone for William was found leaning against the fence and Mr. Kratzer brought it down to his farm for safekeeping.
